Smarter concrete. Stronger future.
Concrete Sustainability Alliance: A SmartCrete CRC Initiative
Tackling market and technical barriers for a decarbonised concrete future.
The Concrete Sustainability Alliance will unlock and accelerate the decarbonisation of concrete infrastructure in pursuit of Australia’s emission reduction targets through industry-led innovation supported by Commonwealth investment.
Next-generation decarbonised concrete infrastructure for a net-zero Australian economy.
In order to achieve full sectoral net-zero emissions in line with the targets outlined in the Paris Agreement, Australia must accelerate its investment in decarbonisation action for the cement and concrete industries.
“We must revolutionise our approach, adopting a systems-based framework that simultaneously tackles the technical, market, regulatory, and capability and skills barriers where they are encountered in the supply chain.”
Decarbonisation Programs
Addressing urgent and immediate priorities to accelerate decarbonisation
The Alliance will comprise five decarbonisation programs, designed to address the most critical current focus areas to unlock pathways to rapid sectoral emissions reduction:
Getting the Numbers Right
Next Generation
Cement
Carbon Smart
Concrete
Designing for Decarbonisation
Powering the Transition
A world-leading program delivering on Government priorities
SmartCrete CRC proposes Commonwealth Government funding of $108 million for a 4-year pilot of the Concrete Sustainability Alliance to address high priority market, technical, policy and training needs and accelerate sectoral decarbonisation in line with national targets.
